G's bday mini album

Something I only managed to finish on the morning of his birthday itself at 7am.. gave him with the mod podge still wet and quickly snatched it back after he has seen it to let it dry. Hahaha.. =P

This was meant to "showcase" the different sides of G - the things that he most loves.

This is my first attempt at doing mini album. Whew!

album: Victorian Key mini album from KaiserCrafts

Cover page:

family pp from 7G, plain cardstock with I stamped words on, rounded the edges and outlined in silver; transparency which I printed myself; alphas K&Co filigree chipboard (coloured over it in black pen to make the filigree more subtle and outlined in silver); MM tiny alphas in black; ghost arrow from Heidi Swapp with silver edging and BG Wholly Cow rubons; Hambly's transparency vintage frames; Maya Road microchips heart.

2nd and 3rd pages: Hubby

2nd page: cloth paper (man+woman) from Love,Elsie; sticker with quote - not sure where it is from, actually a random sticker that I cut out the words from; Cloud 9 Cinnamon Chalet 3d flower

3rd page: same cloth paper, 7G Family rubons for the words "together forever", filigree chipboard alphas same as the coverpage, Maya Road Microchips hearts, Maya Road house chipboard coloured in pink and sprayed with glimmer mist (I really like the effect on this one!) then used 7g family rubons for the "heart", MM tiny alphas for the "home", and the rest is doodling; Basic Grey Sultry chipboards for the swirl and "I heart you".

4th and 5th pages: Daddy

4th page: Family pp same as 1st page, with the definition of "father" cut out from elsewhere on the same paper and layered over the words on that part (which actually said mother hahahahahaha); alphas from Doodlebug - not sure what the actual name of the font is; joyful tab from Sei "Say it with Fabrics" - a super old range I picked up at Popular; Adore and Delight metal stickers on this and the next page from Kimberly Poloson; quote marks from Scenic Route black chipboard.

5th page: Same Family pp, cut to show the word lovely (luv-li); label writer tape for the line; 7G gaffer tape for the right bottom corner; Maya Road microchip heart with pink stickles; Prima Say it in Crystals frame, and the back end of stickers from 7G 97% complete photography tabs which was used on the 6th page

6th and 7th pages: Photographer

6th page: graph paper from hambly's screenprints (a RAK from mly2906), stickers and tabs from 7G 97% complete Photography; I also cut out my hubby's profile and popped it up from the rest of the picture to make it more outstanding.

7th page: The same graph paper; Pink Paislee press-ons on the PP; alphas from American Crafts Thickers Platform in black, also outlined in silver as well as MM tiny alphas; stickers from 7G 97% complete Photography and stamped words "people, places, things". I didn;t manage to stamp the words exactly where I wanted them as it was a rubber stamp. Sigh. The stamps from Heidi Swapp.

8th and 9th pages: Drama King

15 years

How do you condense 15 years into 1 sms?

Today is the last day that my beloved Scampy will be around, the last day in the past 15 years that I can tell others "I have a dog".

We will be putting him down later this morning, because he has cancer at the throat area, has been operated on but the cancer re-grew. He has been unable to eat due to the operation leaving a hole in his jaw, and gradually grown thinner and weaker.

I'm unable to be there for him today as I have to work, but I smsed my mum this morning:
"pls give dog a few extra pats for me b4 sending him off. tell him he is a good dog, a handsome boy and he will always be my favourite pet. thank him for being with us for 15 years from jalan kebaya till now n giving us so many good memories. tell him i will miss him very much n i'm sorry i can't be there w him today. hope that he will have no pain n find himself in doggy heaven when he wakes up with his orange squeaky toy and all his fav foods, n many doggy friends to play with."

Goodbye Scampy, i love you and i will miss you so much.

Busy

being wined and dined for my birthday, and rushing the last few lessons before the exams.

OK, not wined, but still.
1. 16th Sept dinner - Wild Rocket at Hangout Hotel @Mt Emily with G. Good food (read his blog!) and lovely atmosphere. Had a surprise from my section (and some ex-section pp too!) when they came up all the way to celebrate with me. That was really touching, especially since we will soon be together no longer.

le yum

2. 17th Sept lunch - with G again, we went to NYDC and had a simple lunch since they had 1 for 1 set lunches with DBS card.

3. 17th Sept dinner - at Din Tai Fung with my parents. My parents have a very sparse eating style - the 3 of us shared 1 bowl of noodles, 1 xiao long bao, and 2 other dishes - and had trouble finishing it! G couldn't believe his ears when I told him. Hehe.

4. 19th Sept dinner - at NYDC again with Tiff and KQ. Tiff gave me a gorgeous LO showing out 10 years ago super nerdy photo when we went to Australia to visit her! Kwa kwa to the photo but kudos to the LO!

zoom in alot to see our nerd looks

5. 20th Sept dinner - at Fish and Co with I, Jan and Raine, followed by dessert at Ah Chew's (a must every time I go past Bugis!) Jan and I have birthdays that are 2 days apart, so the 3 of them bought me capitaland mall vouchers and the three of us bought her.. capitaland mall vouchers. Haha. Lucky I altered the envelope else it will be even weirder!

Altered envelope for vouchers which I made for Jan

6. 21st Sept - Surprise celebration by my group after PM and oscar.. unfortunately I was in a rush to leave and bring S home and didn't get to stay and thank everyone properly!

This year, my birthday gifts are all literally papers. Very worth money papers hor, capitaland mall vouchers and MWL vouchers. Hehe. My shopping for the rest of the year is settled le. =)

A Great Son

I attended my cousin's wedding dinner earlier. And tonight he showed all of us, unabashedly, what a great son is.

My cousin and his sister were brought up single handedly by his mother. I remembered the days when they lived in a one room flat, and my cousin never even had a PC to do school work on. My aunty struggled so hard to provide for the 2 kids and went through a lot of hardship. Yet my cousin was never bitter or resentful, always upbeat and positive. He made a promise to his mother to study hard and succeed in life so that he will be able to give her the best of everything.

How many young kids have the understanding to be able to see through the material lacks in their life to realise how hard their parents strive to provide for them?

Fast forward to 20 years later, he has kept every single letter of the promise he made as a child and more.

He has made it through Poly, signed on Air Force, served out his bond and awarded an Air Force scholarship to complete his degree, and graduated with a 2nd Upper class honours from NTU. Yes, he is 7 years older than the rest of his classmates, but even through the long route to get a degree he perservered.

He bought his mum and himself a new flat in Sembawang to stay in, furnished it with all the best and most comfortable household appliances money can buy. He does the housework and keeps the place spotlessly neat and clean. He kept his lifestyle clean and pure - no swearing, drinking, smoking - which is very difficult being in the armed forces! and is always respectful, helpful and cheerful.

Even on his wedding, he is doing his best to honour his mum. All the traditional rituals, he followed without a word of fuss even though he obviously doesn't believe in them. For the dinner, the menu was the most expensive possible in a 5 star hotel, and even the jewellery set he bought for his mum to give his wife was extravagant. And the traditional gift to the parents, was not just a bouquet of flowers, but a huge gold pendant. He does not do in a prideful or ostentatious way but it can be seen that everything is carefully selected to give his mother honour and glory, that she can show to the world that this is a son she can be proud of, that he has fulfilled his word to let her fulfil her dream. You can just see the pride shining through my aunty's eyes. And best of all, in front of the whole banquet, he sang the song "世上只有妈妈好" to express his gratitude. How many of us would do that I wonder? So many young couples I've heard of are ungrateful to their parents and argue with them just for the sake of having the wedding "their way". Yet, a wedding is not just about the couple, but also for the sake of honouring the parents who have brought them up. In the end, how the wedding is carried out, is such a small thing compared to the people who have brought us up isn't it?

This morning, Pst was preaching that a good son is one that knows the heart of his father and is willing to lay down his life and his own vision to fulfil that of his father. Although my cousin is not a Christian, it is so clear that he knows well the heart of his mother and is giving her love and glory and honour in the manner that will make her happiest. In order for her to be happy, he is willing to go to all lengths.

I really believe my cousin's wife is a very lucky woman. She is pampered and showered with gifts and love and appreciation, because my cousin learnt to sacrificially love and honour and cherish his mother; that same type of love is conferred upon his wife the day she became his girlfriend 3 years ago. Even in the absence of a father influence in his life he has turned out to be a strong man who knows how to love well; and I am quietly proud to have such a man for my cousin.

May you have a happy marriage and a great life ahead together, Guohao and Feizi.

Backdated: 1 Sept 08 Playdate (James + Sophie)

Debs and James came over for another playdate on the 1st of September. James has such lovely curly hair and roundest eyes! The 2 babies had a great time playing-catch-me-if-you-can / whack-me-if-you-can / see-who-gets-drooly-paws-on-the-toy-first while the two mummies had a nice time of chocolate cake and catching up! Debs returns to work in November and we have arranged to meet up again when she's back from her trip to the UK.

Its the "What the Heck" look again!!

Munchy munchy on the toysies

Vanity, thy name is woman!

And another one I really like - Sophie acting all sweet and lady-like - such a daddy's girl

013: Beloved Child

A little monochrome coming up...

Holy Spirit brought this verse to mind in remembrance, that I am His beloved child; indeed I never understood how significant that verse is until I have a child of my own. No matter what she does, what she demands, I will definitely set aside everything else to cater to her needs and the only reward I need is to see her smile light up.

Yeah so its "beloved child" but the pic is of me, not Sophie. Heh.

Verse: Matthew 3:17 - my beloved child in whom I am well pleased

Journalling 1: Every day I live I know You are my God, I lift my face and look to You my Lord; even when the mountains tremble and a thousand fall, I will stand with You, my Jesus, take my all. (lyrics from the song whose title I don't know.. oops.. also the song that can soothe Sophie to sleep)

Journalling 2: I never fully understood the depth of love those words convey until I became a mother. No matter the unreasonable and unseasonable requests, the whining and the yelling, all Sophie has to do is reach her arms out to me and all is instantly forgiven. And such is the love of God.

A very monochrome layout - I wanted to add on some colour after I'd finished but am still trying to fit it into my messy messy page.
