Saturday morning at home

It's been a long time since I was able to laze around on a Saturday;
to watch my dog wake himself from sleep like a ruffled rug unrumpling,
the sky burnish from a pale golden suffusion to the broad brilliance of day,
and the heat burn the skin besides;
smell my mother's pancakes and gorge on fruit fresh from the fridge
listen to grunting complaints from the 302 as it hauls its torpid body away from the stop downstairs.

but all too soon I must wash and dress
for the day's agenda awaits.

Grateful, however, for those few minutes of stasis.
